First Job

Sometimes it's about who you know!

My first job was at McDonalds, it was a brand new location and McDonald's managers came to our High School to recruit their brand new staff. It was a great time, they provided all of us training in all aspects of the restaurant and we worked a couple of shifts a week. At the time it seemed like they had some silly rules but looking back now, they taught us skills and procedures for customer service that I still carry with me.

My first job was at a golf course. I was a ball boy, you know the guy that gets to clean up all the balls on the driving range. Well anyway, we would pick up the balls, wash them and fill the baskets. We also had to clean out the golf carts and wash them down everyday. Pretty simple tasks but everyday we learned something new and we got to meet a lot of the business owners in the city who got to know us. By the way, how did I get the job? I got to know the golf pro during junior golf lessons and I was at the course everyday golfing.
